Day 61 - Boat

Today can be described in exactly one sentence - we spent eight hours on a boat. It was a nice boat trip, with lovely surroundings and just about bearable weather conditions, but it was still an eight-hour boat trip. Fortunately I managed to get some sleep in the first few hours, as the 5.30am wake-up call was as usual pretty brutal for my non-morning-personality.

The impressive number of little temples we saw on the way to Bagan were just a sample of what expects us tomorrow, as this whole country appears to be covered in them and Bagan is meant to be temple-central. When we got to Mandalay, we ran into a temple between a railway bridge (under which several families had settled and casually watched TV before bedtime) and a side street, and looking at the city from the top of Mandalay Hill it was obvious that there is no requirement for where to put a temple in Myanmar - anywhere will do.

Arriving in Bagan was the highlight of the trip, not only because we had had enough of that boat but also as the view of the temples, scattered along the riverfront, was delightful. As we were pretty exhausted, we just about had time to check-in, grab some dinner, run some errands and get an early sleep in preparation for tomorrow’s Pagoda Odyssey.

Cheers,
J-Wowww
